Ode to the Queen

This weekend we wish the Queen a very Happy 83rd Birthday and rejoice for the fact that we have a public holiday on Monday here in Melbourne. We began her birthday celebrations from early Saturday morning, where Gaz and I indulged in a big English breakfast consisting of fried crisp bacon, eggs, toast with cheese and cups of Earl Grey tea.

Since I haven't seen the new place since Gary got the keys on Tuesday, we went to the house to check if the electricity's connected and the hot water system. Eerything is working well in the house with some minor adjustments to be done. For starters, the grass outside certainly needs some cutting - the weeds are almost calve high!

It's very exciting to think of the sorts of furniture to have in the house, colour of the walls, whitegoods (or rather, stainless steel coz I love the colour scheme in the kitchen!) and overall feel of the house. Since having an interior designer and a landscape artist is not possible, we would have to do it all ourselves. Luckily we won't have to do much.

At night we went to Squire's Loft Steakhouse at South Yarra to meet up with some friends whom Gaz haven't seen for 3 months. Everyone had their 500gms or more steaks/ribs while I had two lamb chops (urgh still too much meat for me) with a superb mint jelly. It tasted very minty and refreshing, and I was literally eating it on its' own. One of our friends recently gave birth to a baby girl and we spent much of our time talking about the baby. Almost everyone in his group of friends are in the next stage in their lives - they're newly married with kids in the picture (sowing, incubating, or has delivered).

All these baby talk continued right into today where we attended another of Gaz's friend's baby's 1st birthday at lunchtime. The little birthday boy was simply adorable, having a very pleasant disposition and being a cookie mould of his mother! He's also the fattest baby I've ever seen!

I'm taking a breather from all the going out right now (besides, Gaz is working) watching a TVB fund raiser concert and reading a graphic novel written by the man who wrote Astroboy. Tomorrow we'll be continuing the celebrations by doing more stocktake sale shopping! Long live the Queen!

ps/ The Queen's actual birthday is on the 21st April 1926, but hey, if she wants to celebrate it any other day no one's going to stop her!
