It was a beautiful day outside yesterday. But I was sick! So there I was, in my pyjamas, unbrushed teeth and ocassionally bending right over with racking coughs while outside, the birds are singing, the sun was shining, and the breeze slowly breezing (or whatever they do). It is not often that Melbourne sees such fine weather in the dead of winter. Man... every year during the three months of winter I go down with the flu. Perhaps if I was brave enough to take the free flu jab the office gives us every year I wouldn't have to suffer through the body aches, coughs, headaches and runny nose. But I absolutely detest jabs, syringes of any kind so the day where I voluntarily take a jab I would have to be rather ill, or out of my mind.
And so, third day of the flu and 10,000mg of Vit C later, I have partially lost my voice (I love it when this happens. I call people up and get them confused about my identity), coughs that would dislodge my lungs if it were not so big and my mouth so much smaller, and teeny bit of body ache still. And guess what? Weather forecast for tomorrow is fine during the day, tops 14.

A Short Story
The idea for the short story below arose during an hour long train ride in peak hour towards home.
Sarah stared out the fast moving train from her window seat as the train sped away towards suburbia, leaving the brightly lit tall buildings, trails of cars stuck in traffic and grim looking commuters on the station platforms. Outside, the scape rapidly changed to show less dense, shorter buildings, more frequently interspersed with large tall trees. It was 7:30pm and she was glad to escape the office after a horrible long day. Her boss had demanded ten different things from her at one time, and she had skipped lunch working on a particular report only to be finally told that it was no longer needed. She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at the thought of returning home to Jack. She couldn't wait to snuggle in bed with him, telling him about her day. He was so understanding, and was always so patient to listen. She had dated other men who, at her first breath of starting to whinge had always changed the topic and talked about sports, or beer. So shallow!
Jack was different. He is her best friend, the only one who could calm her when things do not go according to plan. She could drop all inhibitions and be totally herself around him, something she could not do even among her closest girlfriends. He was good looking too. Often, when he stretched in bed, she could not help but admire his sleek and well toned muscles. People always turn to look at him when they went for walks together at the park. She would always return their looks with a totally contented, happy look of her own. Jack was all hers.
The loudspeaker in the train announced her station. The train slowed to a stop and she quickly stood up, exited the stomach of the train and walked the short distance to her house. As she fed the key into the lock, she was already smiling. "Jack darling...! I'm home!" At the sound of her voice, Jack bounded into the room with his tail swishing furiously, happy to see her. "Woof"!

Plenty to be Glad for
I'm truly glad for the invention of the Internet. After I've been stuck in a house in an unfamiliar territory with limited entertainment for two weeks, I now truly understand the value of the Internet. The provider of information, entertainment, communication, the platform to the world! I'm glad I am FINALLY connected to the Internet.
So, what have I been doing since the last blog post? Lots of cleaning, furniture shopping, cooking, and did I mention cleaning? Yes, I did... but I have to again because I've cleaned more in these 3 weeks than the whole of last year. It was difficult enough to clean up after myself in my rented place where I was only really responsible for the cleanliness of one single room; my own, and the toilet and bathroom. I hardly cooked, and did not use the other rooms as much so I needn't bother about cleaning them. Now, I have 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and the living room to clean! Something to do with first home pride which will no doubt wear off... if it doesn't kill me first.
Feature Wall - don't look too closely!
We painted the whole house ourselves... this involved countering my fear of being in the top rung of the ladder painting at heights I've never imagined myself to be and painting till 11pm at night then driving home to go to work the next day. Oh boy... am I glad it's all over. I even painted a feature wall in the house, I did it all by myself, and unfortunately not very good work too. Friends are only welcome to our house at nights now because the imperfections are less noticeable in dim lighting. We try not to switch on any lights and tell them we're doing our part in reducing our carbon footprint (which is a topic all in the rage in Aust at the mo).
But for the ability to do all this... the house painting, furniture moving, cleaning, arranging for connection of utilities... is what I'm truly glad for..
